BASIL DE SOUSA is a director who has been practising with the firm since August 1985 and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 1987. He is an admitted notary public and attorney advocate thus giving him right of appearance in the High Court. Basil also serves on the panel of arbitrators for the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa. His expertise includes Commercial Law, Company Law, Litigation, Law of Construction, Maritime and Shipping Law and Property Law. He has provided legal turn key solutions for specialised Property Developments including Residential Golf Estates, Residential Wine Estates, Hotels, Rental Pool Schemes, Share Block Schemes, Fractional Ownership and Time Share Schemes.
JUAN SMUTS is a director and head of the Family Law, Divorce Law and Matrimonial Law, department which includes expertise in protecting Muslim men and women married under Islamic Law. He also runs a successful practice in Litigation (High and Magistrate’s Court), Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Insolvency Law. Juan has been practising as an attorney since 1992 and joined the firm in 1999.
JEREMY SIMON is a director who has been with the firm since 2002 and has been in practice since 1986. He specialises in Commercial Law, Labour Law and Insolvencies. Jeremy is also a member of the High Court Committee of the Cape Law Society.
HENNO BOTHMA is a director whose fields of expertise include commercial litigation, commercial drafting, insolvencies, criminal law and maritime and shipping law. He obtained his LLB degree in 2009 from Stellenbosch University, and in 2015 completed his Masters degree in Shipping Law at the University of Cape Town. In 2010, Henno started his articles at a prominent local law firm, where he was later appointed as an associate. In 2013, he joined Abrahams & Gross as an associate and was appointed as a director in 2016.
NICHOLAS HAYES is a director who focuses on a wide range of legal matters, particularly those pertaining to all aspects of conveyancing, commercial law and the preparation and negotiation of property related contracts. He was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in August 2007. Nicholas joined Abrahams & Gross as an associate in 2015 from a prominent conveyancing firm, prior to which he spent three years as an in-house legal consultant for a national private property developer focusing on the drafting, negotiating and structuring of commercial contracts for large scale commercial, mixed use and life-right retirement property developments.
MARITA SWANEPOEL is a director who focuses on the administration of deceased estates, curatorships, drafting of wills and all matters pertaining to conveyancing. Marita was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1982 and joined Abrahams & Gross as an associate in 2015. She was appointed as a director in 2017.
WESLEY SCHEEPERS is a director attending to all legal spheres of family, divorce and matrimonial law as well as commercial litigation, criminal law, property law disputes and general litigation. Wesley joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 2013 and was admitted as an attorney in 2015. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Law (LLB) degrees in 2010 and 2012 respectively at the University of the Western Cape.
DAVID KAGAN is a consultant who practiced with the firm from 1973 to 1988 and then rejoined it in 1998. He is a leading specialist in Residential Lifestyle Estates and Sports Administration. David is currently the President of Hamilton-Sea Point Rugby Football Club as well as an active member of the Western Province Rugby Football Union Executive Committee. David’s areas of expertise covers Property Law including Rezoning and Subdivision of Land, conveyancing of Residential, Commercial and Industrial Properties including Sectional Title Schemes, as well as all matters relating to Sports Administration including the preparation of a Sporting Body’s Constitution and Bye-Laws.
VERA KRUGER is an associate who specialises in family and matrimonial law which includes divorces, custody and maintenance matters. Vera joined Abrahams & Gross as a candidate attorney in 2014 and was admitted as an attorney in 2016. She obtained her Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree in 2013 at the University of Stellenbosch.
